More Than a Feeling by Boston

We are going back to the night before Big Game in 1996.  I had most likely heard this song before playing it in the Cal Band, but I associate it most strongly with the Cal Band.  Big Game Week was full of fun activities, but there was one coveted event that was usually reserved for upperclassmen.  It was the City Bus, the night before Big Game.  I had been a DA (Director's Assistant) that year and we were all chosen to go on the City Bus. I think it was because were supposed to have a party at D-Litt's house, but it didn't happen for some reason or another.  The City Bus was meant to make up for the party (and it did!).  I was so excited because this meant I got to hang out with some of my graduating Senior friends.

The City Bus stopped at bars (and I was a young 19, hence the excitement).  We were dressed in our band uniforms and we went into bars in San Francisco and played.  We were treated to lots and lots of beers and we got to dance and sing and have a very fun time.  During one of the stops, we were standing outside a bar playing More Than a Feeling.  I remember standing there, playing as loudly (but musically!) and the best as I possibly could.  Clarinets had the response (of the call and respond) part of the song.  More than a Feeling....More than a Feeling (that was us)!  I remember looking over at Jenn K. and Melinda M. and they looked back at me and we were having the best time, playing that song.

I don't remember who won the Big Game.  I don't remember which bars we visited.  I do remember being so happy to be a part of the Cal Band, being so proud and excited to be a part of Cal, and celebrating with my friends.
